Chilis - Chili's blatantly practices age discrimination!!!!!
Even though I have over 15 years experience as a server, and was married to a restaurateur/caterer and worked in every aspect of our business, I was denied an interview for a server position, at the local Chili's because their application specifically asked if I was over the age of 18, but under the age of 40. I can operate a cash register, make change, multi-task (I am happiest when I am busy), and even though I have also been in the medical profession, where clients/customers/patients can sometimes be at their worst, and the physical demands of the job are almost overwhelming, I was not even granted an interview, for said server position.
I am unemployed, after having been laid off, and I very much want to work. If Chili's would rather have employees just because they are younger, then they are sadly missing out on return business. I have read their reviews, and over 55% of them were not good.
They might try hiring workers with a good work ethic, excellent references, and those who know the value of a job. I will not, nor will all of my family and friends, be dining at their restaurants ever again.

Maybe you should apply at Cracker Barrel? They hire servers that make a sloth look like it's running at a Cheetahs pace.
Chili's asked me my age during the application process , which I thought was illegal in New York State. When I finished my online application , I was immediately sent an e-mail saying they weren't going to be hiring me.
Coincidence ?? ( since I am 52 ) .
Places like Chili's, Applebee's, TGI Fridays, etc all encourage and foster a young, high school or college age environment, when it comes to employees. They want young, hip, attractive employees.
All these type places do. I think that mentality blows, to be honest.
I can agree that if money is not an issue, then doing volunteer work is very rewarding and you have a lot of options as to different things you can do. Having said that, I will say that a lot of places in the restaurant industry HIGHLY prefer young, college-age people and they especially like to hire attractive people.
Some places insist on it and are rather blunt about it. I worked at a chain restaurant similar to Chili's and at 31, I was the oldest server by about 10 years! I worked at private, independent restaurants and those owners were quite forward in that they only wanted hot young females and a couple hot college guys for a good mix, as employees.
It seemed that skills and experience were secondary, as long as you were hot and young. Personally, I don't care what my server looks like, just give me good service!
You can't be sure age is why you weren't hired and the fact of whom you were married to and the different places you have worked doesn't really matter when it comes to servers. The fact that you were laid off won't help you find another job.
IF, as you say you are happiest when you are busy, look for volunteer work.
There are all kinds of non-profit agencies that need volunteers.
